Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer are renowned for their collections of US and British Commonwealth banknotes. The notes presented here hail from India and nearby areas that were under British rule until the mid-20th century. After World War II, many British colonies gained independence, including India in 1947 and Burma (Myanmar) in 1948, as well as Ceylon (Sri Lanka) which, in 1948, transitioned into a British dominion before becoming an independent republic in 1972.
